09-25-2020 Jim Koewler had been scheduled to participate in a National Business Institute seminar entitled “Protecting Assets while Qualifying for Medicaid” that was going to take place in Akron. Jim was going to discuss “Asset Transfer Strategies,” “Protecting Assets,” “Special Needs Trusts – Creation, Taxation and Administration,” and “Changes to the Medicaid and Long-Term Care Systems.” (Unfortunately, NBI had to cancel this program because of the COVID-19 pandemic.)

10-16-2020 Jim Koewler will make a presentation to the Akron Bar Association’s Estate Planning, Probate, & Elder Law Section regarding Qualified Income Trusts and STABLE accounts at a lunch and learn (via Zoom.) The presentation is expected to qualify for continuing legal education credit.

12-04-2020 Jim Koewler will participate in a participate in a National Business Institute seminar (via webcast) entitled “Family Assets in Medicaid Planning.” Jim will present “Estate Recovery Considerations” and “Legal Ethics of Medicaid Planning.”

12-15 & 16-2020 Jim Koewler will participate in a National Business Institute seminar entitled “Medicaid Planning: The Ultimate Guide” that will take place in Cleveland (subject to change because of the COVID-19 pandemic.) On day 1, Jim will present 3 topics: “Pre-Need Planning – Excluded v Countable Assets,” “Pre-Need Planning – Protecting Assets,” and “Crisis Planning – Asset Purchase and Transfer Strategies.” On day 2, Jim will present another 3 topics: “Using Special Needs Trusts,” Medicaid Estate Recovery – What can they Get?” and “Applied Legal Ethics.”
